Let your voice be heard

In the intense scrambling of an election year, it's often hard to convince ourselves that one vote makes a difference. It may seem like a better idea just to ignore the whole thing. So why vote? Aside from the arguments about civic duty and loyalty to party, is there a spiritual basis for voting?

Casting your vote is like speaking with your own unique voice. Who gave you that voice? Your creator. This creator is God, infinite, perfect, forever expressing Himself. He expresses Himself through man, His image and likeness. Without man, God would be unexpressed. Mary Baker Eddy, a pioneer in the discovery of man's true nature, writes in Science and Health: "God, without the image and likeness of Himself, would be a nonentity, or Mind unexpressed. He would be without a witness or proof of His own nature. Spiritual man is the image or idea of God, and idea which cannot be lost nor separated from its divine Principle" (p. 303).

Consider a symphony orchestra. For a balanced presentation, all the instruments must be represented in their proper proportion. If the violinists decide to stay home or if the timpani player choose not to play because he doesn't like the conductor, an essential part of the music is lost.
