When we moved across the United States to an entirely different climate, our three-year-old daughter suddenly developed a cold. When it lasted several weeks, we made an appointment with a pediatric specialist, who examined the child carefully. He told us gently that she was allergic, would always be allergic, and that her children would be allergic after her.

For a few years she showed symptoms of allergy for a short time each year, around the same calendar date. When she was seven, we found Christian Science. After that, each year when she showed allergic symptoms, she had Christian Science treatment and the difficulty would vanish in a day. This went on for a few years.

One day as we traveled by car to visit a friend in a nearby town, I was reading the Bible Lesson from the Quarterly. The subject was my favorite, "Adam and Fallen Man," which explains clearly that Adam, described in the second chapter of Genesis, was not the man made by God—the man revealed by Jesus. I became so inspired by what I was reading that I turned to our daughter in the rear seat and said, "You are not the Adam man. You are God's man." The trouble ended right there; there was never another symptom of allergy.
