In Science and Health Mary Baker Eddy states: "Thoughts unspoken are not unknown to the divine Mind. Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds" (p. 1).
Many years ago, the truth of these powerful words was demonstrated to me when I was first a student of Christian Science. I was pregnant with our son at the time, and three months into the pregnancy my water bag ruptured—a sign the doctors insisted indicated an impending miscarriage. I telephoned a practitioner and insisted emphatically that I wanted life for the baby.
The doctor came to the house prepared to abort the child, but I told him I did not want him to do that. He did not pressure me in the least, but he left his medical bag at my home and said that he knew I would be calling him before daybreak. He felt there was nothing that could be done to save the baby.
