I submit this testimony in gratitude for Science and Health. I am deeply grateful that Mrs. Eddy had the unselfishness to write down her revelation of the Science of Christ, so that everyone in the world could benefit.

I wish to share one example of the healing effectiveness of Christian Science in my own life, although one testimony is not enough to show the many ways in which I have been saved from sickness and sin, or to convey fully the blessings I've received. I think the words of St. John express the nature of this healing record: "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written" (John).

As a teenager, I smoked tobacco and marijuana habitually, drank socially, and used every kind of illegal drug I could obtain. This was despite the fact I was raised in a home where my parents studied and practiced Christian Science. By the time I was sixteen I smoked upward of a pack of cigarettes a day, and by my senior year I got high before, during, and after school each day. I remember thinking I could get high without any impairment; I would often brag among my friends about how much I had smoked, drunk, or taken. I narrowly escaped having to repeat my senior year and failed one course in the last semester.
