About two years ago I was helping some friends load a large generator onto a trailer. The equipment weighed approximately one ton, and because we didn't have a lifting device we were using rollers and jacks to move it.

All was going well until the generator moved suddenly. I overreacted and fell off the side of the trailer. My head struck a gas can before I hit the ground, and thus took the full impact of the fall. I felt I was losing consciousness. I was able to resist this feeling mentally through prayer. Then the thought came to get on my feet, and with a friend's help I was able to stand. I realized the injury looked serious, and once at home I decided to get help from a Christian Science practitioner.

I called a practitioner and briefly explained the situation. He agreed to pray, and without any further discussion we hung up. I resisted the temptation to touch the wound or examine it in the mirror, but I could feel it begin to swell. As I sat quietly I reached out to God for help, and a passage came to mind from Science and Health: "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements. ... Man is spiritual and perfect; and because he is spiritual and perfect, he must be so understood in Christian Science."
