I have had a number of physical healings through my application and understanding of Christian Science. Some of these healings were dramatic occurrences, and others very simple events; but all have proved the power of God, which is available to us every minute of every day, independent of place or human circumstance.
Once as I entered a very well-known hotel, the lobby seemed dark as compared to the bright sunshine outside. The floor was highly polished, and I slipped on the marble steps, cutting my head. There was much bleeding, and employees of the hotel who had witnessed the fall called for an ambulance. I had recently been studying this particular passage from Science and Health: "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony" (p. 424). With these thoughts, I could confidently know that nothing evil had happened to me as God's child. So I declined the ambulance services and asked if I could have the use of a telephone.
I called a Christian Science practitioner and told him of the accident. He said immediately, "I will take up the work and pray for you. Know that nothing happened to you." This comforted me. I continued affirming every minute that I lived and moved in God, and that nothing could happen to me unless it happened first to God.
