The lesson of Naaman
Everyone can find healing answers in the spiritual message behind familiar Bible stories.
Original in Portuguese
We all have much to learn about life and about who we really are. The Bible is full of narratives which, when rightly understood, can teach us great moral and spiritual lessons. Christian Science helps us see that we can actually demonstrate the eternal value and healing power of these Biblical messages.
In the second book of Kings we find the story of Naaman, a commander of the Syrian army who was suffering from leprosy. On the advice of an Israelite girl who served in his home, he sought help from the prophet Elisha. Elisha sent word to Naaman: "Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean." The officer's first reaction was to scorn the prophet's words, but, convinced by his servants, he went "and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean."
