About our cover THINKING IT THROUGH
True womanhood—we all need its power now
Womanhood and power. We don't often see these two words together. But our world—so in need of love and peace—is beginning to see the value of womanhood in government, business, and society. One example of this is the increasing awareness of the effective style of many businesswomen.
An acquaintance recently shared her experience. After a promotion within a large insurance company, she discovered she was facing an enormous backlog of work and serious personnel problems. As this petite, soft-spoken woman described the situation, she said, "It seemed as though a six-foot-five-inch man with a deep, booming voice who would pound people into place was needed." But inwardly she turned in prayer to God each day, and outwardly she lovingly encouraged each person to reach his or her potential. And the work was carried out so well, so quickly, that her managers were amazed. They spoke of the order and the nurturing sense she brought to the work. Clearly, the power of true womanhood was felt in that office.
Sadly, not all stories of women at work, or at home, are as happy as this one. Many women face discrimination, sexual harassment, and domestic violence. These problems are rooted in false views of what womanhood (and manhood) really are. True womanhood is not sexuality; nor is it servitude.
