On one occasion when I was faced with a physical difficulty, I became discouraged. Then the idea came to me to recall the many healings I had had through Christian Science. I decided to write them down. It wasn't long after that that I found myself feeling deeply grateful for all the evidence of God's care and healing power.
This gratitude allowed me to replace discouragement with confidence in God and my God-derived ability to respond to the spiritual truths He imparts. I tucked the list I had made into my Bible and went on with my normal activities. Not long after that the healing came.
About two years ago our child (then a baby) was experiencing a fever. After I had spent some time in prayer, the situation did not seem any better. I got my Bible and pulled out the piece of paper that listed my past healings—all proofs that God sustains and preserves man's well-being. As I reviewed the details of these healings, I realized that in reality our son's health was already intact. After recalling Jesus' words before he raised Lazarus from the dead, "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always" (John), I realized that God's power was present and I confidently added our son's healing to the others on my list. The next morning the fever was broken, and by noon the child was playing freely.
