To turn to the Science of Christ in times of trouble is very...

To turn to the Science of Christ in times of trouble is very freeing. I have had physical healings and resolutions to financial and relationship problems through spiritually understanding God and His government.

One evening when I was six months pregnant with our first child, rigid abdominal pain developed to the point that my breathing was restricted. As I reached out to God, a story from that week's Bible Lesson (from the Christian Science Quarterly) kept coming to thought. It was the parable of the prodigal son (see Luke, chap. 15). Not feeling like a prodigal myself, I searched the story for new light. When I thought of how the distraught elder son was told by his father, "Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine," my thinking became clearer. I realized the qualities of harmony and restfulness that originated in God were mine to express.

I called a Christian Science practitioner for support through prayer, because I was still fearful for the baby's well-being. We talked about divine Principle, a synonym for God. Principle is the only source of all true action, and in Principle there is no abnormality or improper functioning. After I'd talked with the practitioner, the parable of the prodigal son came again to thought. As I read that the father in the story "ran" to, or "came ... out" to, each of his sons, it became clear that God doesn't leave us alone to find our way but helps bring us completely home to harmony. As I thought about this, the pain left. I felt gentle internal adjustments take place for about fifteen minutes, and then I fell asleep. Three months later a healthy girl was born. The birth was quick.
