When our daughter was about five years old, we went ice-skating as a family. She was no sooner on the ice than she fell and injured her arm. I was fearful that it was broken, but even at her young age she was confident that God would heal her. We called a Christian Science practitioner to pray for her, and we prayed as well.
In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy there is specific instruction as to what to do in the case of accident: "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony."
My prayer conformed to that instruction. I turned my thought away from the physical evidence of an injured arm and contemplated our daughter's spiritual relationship to God, the one Mind. I acknowledged God's presence and power and affirmed that our child could not be separated from her true Father-Mother, God; that unerring, infinite intelligence, or divine Mind, was governing and maintaining her health.
