In 1975, while I was working abroad in a large international organization, I reached a point where I was confused and disturbed about my job and about life in general. I had brought a Bible with me from home, and in it I found four verses from Psalms, including these, which I read often: "O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways." Humbly I was reaching out to God for guidance and help.
A few months later I was invited to visit a friend in England. I felt warmly welcome and spent some wonderful days there. When Sunday came, my friend suggested I accompany her to the service at the church she usually attended in London. I was happy to go. It turned out to be a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. I had not heard of Christian Science before. When we left the service, it was as if many burdens had been lifted from me. I felt relieved. Everything seemed bright and new.
That week I passed a Christian Science Reading Room. I went in and bought a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to take home with me.
