A few years ago I was laid off from my job
A few years ago I was laid off from my job. The problem of unemployment had begun years earlier and was a longstanding one. I had held several positions over the years that for one reason or another had not worked out happily for me.
When I did not find immediate employment, I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. The practitioner gave me several ideas to ponder. Among the things I thought about were the children of Israel and the forty years they spent in the desert. Every day that they were wandering in the desert, they were taken care of by God; all their human needs were met. Never did they want for anything they needed. So it could be for me and my children. I trusted that our needs would be met as I resolved this situation through prayer.
Being unemployed caused me to think deeply about the meaning of true employment. I realized that our true employer is God. So, I thought about what being employed by God meant to me. I reasoned that since God is omniactive, in my real identity I was also actively employed as His perfect, spiritual reflection.
