Thaw out the frozen feelings
On a winter night a few years ago, we went over to a friend's church for an evening of black gospel music.
We felt as if we were coming in from the cold in more ways than one. We felt included and embraced. It thawed out some feelings that seemed to have been frozen by a hard week.
There were songs like "He's that Kind of Friend" and "It's Going to Work Out Fine" and "God Is." It didn't seem so much a performance as the kind of heartfelt expression and insight you just wanted to say "amen" to.
