From the time I was a teenager, I was faced with periodic nosebleeds which, although they were a nuisance, were not serious. However, as time went on and I graduated from university, the nosebleeds became more alarming. I prayed, seeking to recognize that God's child could not be affected by nosebleeds, since this was a form of discord and it could not come from a loving, all-powerful God.
There were times when I would ask for help from a practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal. One practitioner referred me to a passage in Science and Health, where Mrs. Eddy answers the question "What is man?" Part of her answer states: "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements. The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness." Equally appropriate is this statement in the book: "The blood, heart, lungs, brain, etc., have nothing to do with Life, God. Every function of the real man is governed by the divine Mind."
On one occasion, I was advised to be expectant of healing. I saw that while I was praying for a higher understanding of my true, spiritual being, it was important for me to trust that increased spiritualization of thought would result in healing.
