Christian Science has been a part of my life from very early...
Christian Science has been a part of my life from very early childhood, when I was adopted by a loving couple who lived and practiced this healing Science. For over three decades I have relied on Science to heal physical ills, to overcome emotional upsets, and to find inspiration at school and work.
I recall that when I was about eight years old I was told by the school nurse that I had chicken pox, which was considered epidemic in the school at the time. The school nurse called my mother, who came to take me home. In the car my mother kidded with me, saying, "What are you doing with chicken pox? You're not a chicken!" We laughed about that, but we also talked about what it means for me to be the unspotted child of God's creating. In a very short time all evidence of the disease had left.
Over a year ago I experienced what I consider a most convincing proof of Christian Science healing. My menstrual period continued far beyond its usual time. For the first week after its usual stopping time I thought little of it. During the next week I was concerned. But when it appeared that this was going to continue into yet another week I called on a friend, a Christian Scientist, for Christian Science treatment through prayer. She pointed out this statement in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 478): "That body is most harmonious in which the discharge of the natural functions is least noticeable." And her loving, calm trust that our prayer would be effective quieted my fear so that I could do some praying myself.
