A few years ago I traveled to Seattle, Washington, to attend a meeting and take some vacation time. On my first day in Seattle I wasn't feeling well and stayed in the hotel room most of the day. But later that afternoon the friend with whom I was sharing the room asked me if I would like to accompany her on a ferryboat across Puget Sound to one of the islands, as she was meeting someone there. I said I'd like to go.

While we were crossing the Sound I began to feel even worse. There was a sharp pain in my throat, and it was difficult to swallow or breathe normally. I had experienced a similar difficulty years before that had lasted a long time, and I was alarmed. My friend, a Christian Scientist, gave me a copy of the Sentinel. She also offered to ride back to Seattle with me. I thanked her but said no.

On the way back, about a twenty- to thirty-minute ride, I found a quiet seat and opened up the Sentinel to the first editorial. It included a quotation from Rudimental Divine Science by Mrs. Eddy that immediately caught my eye. It states (p. 9), "The spiritual power of a scientific, right thought, without a direct effort, an audible or even a mental argument, has oftentimes healed inveterate diseases." The word that stood out to me in that statement was a—"a scientific, right thought." What it said to me was that all I needed was one right idea, and I could be healed right then and there. I didn't necessarily have to spend a lot of time praying before I could be healed.
