Council tries prayer

"After spending millions of dollars in what appears to be a futile fight against the crack cocaine epidemic, the [Jacksonville] city council ... is hoping for a little divine intervention.

"Councilwoman Ginny Myrick has proposed a bill calling for the entire city to devote one day to praying for deliverance from the city's drug trade.

"'On a legislative level we are doing everything we can do, yet it still keeps growing,' Ms. Myrick said.

"Eight other council members are co-sponsoring the measure, which is expected to be approved as an emergency at the next council meeting ...."
