Council tries prayer
"After spending millions of dollars in what appears to be a futile fight against the crack cocaine epidemic, the [Jacksonville] city council ... is hoping for a little divine intervention.
"Councilwoman Ginny Myrick has proposed a bill calling for the entire city to devote one day to praying for deliverance from the city's drug trade.
"'On a legislative level we are doing everything we can do, yet it still keeps growing,' Ms. Myrick said.
"Eight other council members are co-sponsoring the measure, which is expected to be approved as an emergency at the next council meeting ...."

Editors' comment: For those who have found prayer immensely practical in bringing healing to their own lives, Councilwoman Myrick's statement has a refreshing frankness and realism.
