ABOUT CHRISTIAN HEALING

Christianity: again a religion of acts

As most of us recall, the first book of the Bible following the Gospels is Acts—not words but acts. And we probably also remember hearing that after Christ Jesus, for several hundred years, there was a period of great vitality. Healings similar to those of Jesus' ministry were frequent and widely known.

The early Church fathers, people who were recognized church leaders of the period prior to the Nicene Creed—such as Tertullian, Cyprian, and Irenaeus—tell of healings of crippling disease, accident, and even overcoming of death. A book called Christian Healing by Evelyn Frost recounts the evidence for such healings in the early Christian Church.

Miss Frost writes: "One of the most valuable sources of evidence outside the New Testament is the work of Irenaeus ... She cites Irenaeus as mentioning instances of giving sight to the blind; hearing to the deaf; casting out all sorts of demons; curing the paralytic; and effectually remedying external accidents.
