Anchor in spiritual reality
Everyone needs an anchor—something strong and safe to hold on to when things get rough.
People who live where they can look out to sea sometimes enjoy the tranquil picture of a distant stationary ship or boat resting quietly in the water.
Of course the ship is not stationary, although it often appears to be. Actually it is always moving with the action of the waves. Yet the ship may be held firmly in place by an anchor solidly hooked into the bottom of the sea.
Don't we all wish that we could be so secure in our position, particularly when we feel acutely the constant up-and-down swells of everyday events? Such a wish can be turned into fact when we learn to anchor our thoughts and our lives in God, divine Love. How do we do this? Perhaps it starts by admitting that God is present and indeed a sure reality. Mariners cannot usually see the ocean bottom when they drop an anchor into the sea, but they do expect that it will be there! We also need to expect, when we turn to God for spiritual understanding and peace, that He will be there to support that desire.
