The most important title of all is already yours

And your acceptance of it heals discords and awakens you to life in God.

Have you ever thought that a title is necessary to tell others who you are, what you do, what abilities and responsibilities you have? Many people feel that a title also conveys power, prestige, and privilege and helps establish one's place on the ladder of success. Often a title can play a role in determining one's income and position in the community.

But what about those who have no title or those who would like a more important one? What about the person who deserves a title that has been withheld? Does one have clear-cut worth, a distinct identity, if he does not have a title? Any wrestling over these questions can be resolved through an understanding of our spiritual identity.

The Master, Christ Jesus, taught that each one of us has a title—actually a selfhood—of the highest order: the child of God. This is a title the world cannot bestow or withhold, because it is divinely given. The significance, privileges, and responsibilities of this title surpass worldly aspirations. In Isaiah we read, "Since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him." Isa. 64:4.
