I am deeply grateful for a lifetime of reliance on God for the solution of every type of problem. Christian Science has given me some understanding of the joy and dominion that are possible when one is striving to follow the teachings of Christ Jesus.

Prior to the birth of our second child, I began talking regularly with a Christian Science practitioner and studying references in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy in regard to children and childbirth. I prayed to understand better the child's true spiritual identity, and to see God as the only Father-Mother of all. This statement in Science and Health with the marginal heading "Scientific obstetrics" was of great help (p. 463): "To attend properly the birth of the new child, or divine idea, you should so detach mortal thought from its material conceptions, that the birth will be natural and safe. Though gathering new energy, this idea cannot injure its useful surroundings in the travail of spiritual birth."

The doctor I had engaged had attended other students of Christian Science at childbirth and had a deep regard for Christian Science. He agreed to deliver the child at our home. At the time of the birth the doctor discovered that the baby was in a position requiring a breech delivery. My husband called the practitioner, who was praying for us, to inform her of the situation.
