Several years ago a testimony written by my grandmother, in which she recounted my childhood healing of recurring earaches, was published. I remember vividly being healed permanently of that malady. The fact that I never suffered again from the trouble left a lasting impression on me.
When I was nearly twenty I joined the United States Navy and was sent to a base in California for basic training. It was the first time I had ever been away from home on my own. I soon found myself missing familiar surroundings and wondering if I had done the right thing.
About two weeks into our training we were taken one day to a large staging area with tables manned by chaplains and representatives from various religions. We had already been informed that on Sunday morning we were expected to devote a period of time to religious activity. (Although no one was compelled to attend church, it was the only activity available during that time.)
