Peace through the sword of Spirit

Spiritual vision is a weapon for peace. It enables us to help others— even some who would be our enemies.

With all the large and small peace movements and the active prayers of many for the resolution of conflicts, it is important to remember Christ Jesus' words "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you." John 14:27. Wasn't he referring to something more than the absence of war—to the peace of spirituality?

Jesus also said, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword." Matt. 10:34. At first glance it might seem that he contradicts himself But a closer look reveals that his peace and his sword were spiritual, having the power to penetrate the materialism that would stifle harmony among people and nations.

Spirituality makes war on materiality and sin, because when we are "at peace" with materiality there exists a breeding habitat for hatred and violence. Genuine peace comes as Christ, Truth, awakens human consciousness from mortality to the understanding of spiritual being.
