Revising our hopes
It does matter what we build our expectations on—and what we build with.
Hope can be a powerful thing! Look at the work it can inspire!
A preschooler will work with intense energy at building a tower of blocks—and pity the playmate who topples that tower! Young people spend countless hours in exercise and practice, hoping to "make the team" in a sport they love. And what about adults, diligently building their empires—be they large or small—of money, power, fame, status. Here the stakes can be higher, and if the empire falls, the reactions are potentially more damaging for more people.
Long ago, when Christ Jesus was threatened with the loss of everything, right down to his earthly existence, he said, "My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight ...: but now is my kingdom not from hence." John 18:36.
