Wilderness
Fear-blinded, Israel's children
refused to accept the fact
their Canaan was so near,
and so they wandered
year after year,
an aimless, indecisive band,
because they would not heed
Caleb's report of milk and honey,
but chose to believe
that Anak's giants
ruled their Promised Land.
May not I, too, be blinded
when mortal fears assail,
gigantic as Anak's sons?
May I instead accept the milk and honey
of God's amplitude and care,
and awake to the promised land
that, in truth, was always there!
