I have had many opportunities to prove the healing power of Christian Science. One particular healing that remains a source of inspiration to me involved the birth of our second son. My husband and I, along with a very supportive Christian Science practitioner, had been praying during the months preceding the birth to perceive this occasion as an unfolding of a new idea to human consciousness. We acknowledged that the child was included in God's creation, known and loved by the divine Parent, his Father-Mother God.

We read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 463): "To attend properly the birth of the new child, or divine idea, you should so detach mortal thought from its material conceptions, that the birth will be natural and safe. Though gathering new energy, this idea cannot injure its useful surroundings in the travail of spiritual birth."

Two verses from the Bible were particularly inspiring to me during this time: "I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you" (Isa. 46:4) and "Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered ..." (Isa. 66:7). I had no fear of long hours of hard labor being required of me to bring forth this child. God's creation is ever unfolding itself to human consciousness, and my primary responsibility was to recognize God's power to govern this activity.
