One of the greatest blessings that has come to me through my study of Christian Science has been a sound, happy companionship. When I was a young woman new to this Science, I had seen a number of unhappy marriages. This had left me quite apprehensive of trusting and loving someone in a close relationship, especially since I had had several disillusioning relationships myself.

Often just as I was most inspired in my study of Science, a new romance would enter my life. I didn't want to have another sad experience and would pray earnestly for guidance. Frequently it would seem right to follow this new opportunity. Then later I would find again that the relationship was not right and had pulled me away from the high level of inspiration I'd felt previously.

Still, each experience taught me a great deal. After each one I prayerfully considered what I'd learned and earnestly tried not to repeat the same error in judgment. The qualities I sought in a companion and the sense of what I needed to give in return became clearer and clearer with each occurrence. Several experiences taught me not to be taken in by appearance, glamour, worldly success, or strong physical attraction.
