Are we really grateful for the good already received?...

"Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more." So writes Mary Baker Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 3). It is time I expressed gratitude for Christian Science and for the peace and harmony that have come into my life through its study.

A healing that particularly stands out, and for which I am most grateful, took place a few years ago. I was suddenly afflicted with an irritating skin condition that covered my whole body. At times it was so intense (particularly during the night) that I scratched almost compulsively. This made my body extremely sore. In fact, my arms were so affected, I was unable to stretch them out completely.

Throughout this experience I had the loving, prayerful help of a Christian Science practitioner. When the situation was at its worst, I endeavored to cling in thought to my oneness with God, claiming His all-power as the same power of which Christ Jesus gave to his disciples when he said to them (Luke 10:19): "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
