The importance of the "Daily Prayer" in the Manual of The Mother Church...

The importance of the "Daily Prayer" in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy has been proved in my life. The prayer closes with these words (Art. VIII, Sect. 4): "And may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!" I feel this prayer reaches out and touches the receptive heart.

In many ways it seems my whole life has been shaped by the truths of the allness of God. Even before I had ever heard of Christian Science it was touching my life. When I was a child we moved near a small branch church. Almost everyone we met was a Christian Scientist. When I was eight years old I attended the Sunday School of this branch church for about three months. Until that time I had been an extremely nervous, high-strung child, unable to swallow normally and given to severe headaches.

Shortly after my enrollment in the Sunday School, I no longer suffered with insomnia. My appetite and health became normal. At the time I did not realize what had caused this turn for the better; my family understood nothing of how healing took place in Christian Science. Again, at thirteen, I attended the same Sunday School. Several of my friends were practicing Christian Scientists. One of the girls had a remarkable healing through prayer of a broken wrist. After seeing that, I believed firmly in the healing efficacy of this Science. But I did not take up the study and practice of Christian Science at that time.
