Your name is written in heaven

Everyone has experiences that make verses in the Bible come alive with new meaning. I had one some years ago while climbing in the Swiss Alps.

As we began to ascend the first tall peak, the climb became both tedious and exhausting. When we finally reached the top, instead of collapsing, I and the others were captivated by the view. Exhilarated and refreshed, we pushed on toward the main summit. Climbing up to a ridge, I lost my balance and began falling. Not being tied to anyone and having nothing to grab hold of, I panicked for a second. But I immediately remembered that we are tied forever to God, that He is our Life. I regained my balance and scrambled up to the ridge. It was as though the hand of God had pushed me forward. You can imagine the song in my heart as we reached the top.

There we found a register book for climbers to sign. My sense of achievement in getting there, in conquering with God's help the obstacles along the way, and in adding my name to the relatively short list of climbers in that book (started in the early 1900's) inspired me far more than even the view.
