A Church that teaches the Ten Commandments and Christian healing

One Sunday afternoon a commentator on television was talking about what he felt was essential in order for a Christian church to be true to God's Word. It was his opinion that a church must teach strict adherence to the Ten Commandments. He felt it was not sufficient for a church merely to promote some abstract interpretation claiming that the "new commandment" of Jesus is all that one needs to follow.

The commentator did, of course, recognize the great importance of Jesus' new command "That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." John 13:34. But he considered this to be a responsibility additional to one's adherence to the Ten Commandments, not a substitute for the Decalogue.

Listening to these observations, I was grateful for what Christian Science had taught me of the absolute necessity to understand and live each of God's commandments. But I was also grateful for something else—that Christian Science teaches all mankind to strive faithfully to follow Christ Jesus' example of pure Christian healing and regeneration. I had learned that upholding the moral law and practicing spiritual healing are both essential to working out one's salvation.
