FOR CHILDREN

An act of kindness

It was a grand day for baseball, and the children were playing with Father in a large field at the side of their house. They had old tree stumps for bases, and a huge pear tree marked home plate. Tigger, the cat, draped himself over a hanging branch and watched through one sleepy eye.

Presently there was an ugly sound, which grew louder. Everyone ran to see. They found their dog, Greta, holding a squirrel tightly in her strong jaws. The furry animal's shrill squeaks pierced the morning air. Seven-year-old Kristina raced forward and tugged the squirrel away from the dog. Suddenly she screamed, "It bit me. It bit me." With tears streaming down her face she ran to Father.

Now, it's important to tell you that this family had just begun to learn how good God is. They had been studying Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and singing Mrs. Eddy's hymns. They were learning through Christian Science that since everything is made by God, good, it has to be good too; that everything God creates—and this means man and all creation—lives together in perfect harmony.
