Emerge gently from matter into Spirit

"Emerge gently from matter into Spirit. Think not to thwart the spiritual ultimate of all things, but come naturally into Spirit through better health and morals and as the result of spiritual growth." This quotation from page 485 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy describes how I came to trust eternal good and how God became real to me through studying Christian Science over the course of several years.

My introduction to Science came at a time when my life appeared to be hopelessly disturbed. One day I picked up a copy of the Sentinel in a box outside a Christian Science Reading Room and spent that evening reading it. The next morning, when the Reading Room opened, I went back for more.

Thus began a year of regular visits to the Reading Room. During this time I discovered that even though I didn't understand everything I read, after a couple of hours of reading, I'd leave refreshed and relaxed, thinking about many new and wonderful concepts of God. Often I found one sentence or thought that would meet a particular need for that day. Sometimes what I read awakened me to an understanding of things that had puzzled me for many years.
