The reflecting business

Do you feel vulnerable to the possibility of unemployment? Have you been looking for satisfying work without success? I once answered affirmatively to both these questions. After months of mailing resumes, hesitating at the doors of interviewers, and pleading with God to send me work, I was disgusted with the whole employment process. I asked myself, "Why am I failing to find work?" Through prayer I discovered I was failing precisely because I was looking for work—that is, because I believed I lacked it.

The belief that I lacked what I needed blinded me to the truth of God's eternal supply and care. I had to learn that in reality we are eternally employed in the business of reflecting God, and that this business supplies all our needs.

This employment can be claimed by everyone because we are actually God's beloved children. The Bible explains, "For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them." And further on, "Ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." II Cor.6:16,18. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy speaks about this relationship in another way. She writes, "Man is, and forever has been, God's reflection." Science and Health, p.471.
