Some years ago, my starting a new business took all the resources and financial backing available to me at the time. We got off to a good start, but before the first year had ended it became apparent that we had too much business during part of the year and not enough at other times. At one point, the industry we were serving had to close down for a model changeover. This we were unprepared for. Soon I found myself harboring a deep sense of fear and anxiety.

Being an earnest student of Christian Science, however, I had for a long time made a regular study of the weekly Bible Lesson found in the Christian Science Quarterly. In reading the lesson that week, I was awakened by this statement in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p.162): "The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind." By the time I had finished reading this, my thought was so enlightened with God-inspired thoughts that the negative, depressed ones I had been taking in just vanished.

A few days went by without any apparent change. But this inspiration remained with me. Then, after spending several days calling on companies in the surrounding sales territory, I felt led to call on a man who was the director of purchasing for a large company. When I did, he told me that they had just designed a new line of products that would require large quantities of a very specialized item—something I knew we were equipped and highly qualified to produce. A contract was drawn up, and after giving me the specifications as to how this item was to be made, this man asked, "How did you ever happen to make this call?"
