When I was a child I would recite the "Daily Prayer" from the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy every morning before going to school (see Article VIII, Sect. 4). This helped to uplift my thought to the recognition that my purpose each day was to glorify God. One morning as I rode my bicycle to school I sang hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal that I had learned in Sunday School. Then suddenly, while crossing a busy street, I was hit by a car. The impact threw me into the air, and I landed in the middle of the intersection.

The woman who had been driving the car was very upset and insisted on calling an ambulance. I felt no ill will toward this woman, but I was firm in declining all medical attention as I was so sure God was caring for me. I knew that as His perfect child I could not be the victim of an accident.

My mother was called and came to get me. But when I tried to walk I found that something was out of place in my foot. We went home, and my mother called a Christian Science practitioner who helped me through prayer. Whatever was wrong with my foot was harmoniously corrected as a result of this treatment. Also, dizzy spells I had been experiencing ceased.
