During my childhood I witnessed the healing effect of Christian Science in the lives of relatives of mine. Later, when I was an adult, I myself had numerous proofs of the efficacy of this Science—some healings coming about with the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner and others through the progressive understanding of my own study of the Bible and the writings of Mrs. Eddy. Regular reading of the Christian Science periodicals taught me much about applying the spiritual truths I was learning.

One of the first healings I had was so natural and spontaneous that I remember it with special gratitude. The problem was inflammation under the nail of my big toe—a problem that had sometimes kept me away from work for a few days. On this occasion, because of the pain, I had already resigned myself to being absent from work that afternoon. However, taking advantage of my lunch hour, I picked up a copy of The Herald of Christian Science (Portuguese Edition) and became completely absorbed in the truths I was reading — to the point of forgetting about the physical problem. When I finished reading, I found, to my surprise and joy, that the pain had ceased and that the toe had returned to its natural appearance. I was able to put my shoe back on and return to work. The healing was complete and has been for thirty years now.

Another proof that strengthened my faith and has helped me overcome many difficulties occurred during a business trip, while I was far from home and in a city I had not visited before.
