With a willingness to actively follow God's direction, we can begin to prove that the Christ, as demonstrated by Jesus, is here today to uplift every aspect of our lives.

When I was serving as First Reader in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, my business commitments required extensive travel. It was not unusual to drive twenty-five thousand miles and fly one hundred thousand miles each year! Our three children were young, and the accompanying responsibilities were quite demanding. My preparatory duties as First Reader took time, and my time seemed at a premium. How often we hear it said, "The day went so slowly!" or "The day went so fast!" These contradictory views of an identical twenty-four-hour period indicate that time is a relative measurement, dependent upon thought. Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, includes this observation in her definition of "day" (Science and Health, p. 584): "The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded."

The inspiration that came from pondering this spiritual view enabled me to challenge the argument that I was too busy to properly attend to all my obligations. I learned that it was not really time that was needed but a spiritual understanding of each activity's purpose. This insight lifted thought above the limited human senses and revealed man's meaningful activity to be that of reflecting God. The result was three happy and fruitful years of service as a Reader, for which I am very grateful.
