Reducing error to zero
When a child in math class is given a large fraction and told to reduce it to its lowest terms, he may have to make many small reductions before he reaches the lowest terms. But each reduction brings him closer to the correct answer. Eventually the child will learn to see the right answer at once.
In a way, the solution of a problem through Christian Science is similar. Although reducing fractions leads to a final result, if we think of disease as being the fraction that needs to be reduced, its lowest term is actually zero, nothingness. If we already know something about Christian Science, the law of God, we may decide to solve the problem ourselves; or we may ask a Christian Science practitioner to pray for us. The practitioner will support our efforts through prayer that will reveal the aspect of God's law we need to understand in this particular case. Though the law of God, Truth, is constantly present, we need to recognize, understand, and live it.
When the practitioner and the person asking for help immediately see the Christ, the perfect man of God's creating, and the nothingness of the disease—its lowest term—healing is quick. This should be expected. Immediate healings took place through Christ Jesus' prayers. Elijah, Peter, Paul, and other biblical figures also cured ailments instantaneously. Since the discovery of Christian Science more than a hundred years ago, thousands have been instantaneously healed. Some of these experiences are recorded, after being carefully verified, in the Christian Science periodicals.
