I have had many proofs of God's love and care in the more than thirty years I have been a student of Christian Science. This is one of my more recent healings.

On waking one morning I found that my hearing in one ear was almost completely gone. It was difficult to follow most conversations. My constant prayer the next few days was for a better understanding of God and my true selfhood as made in His image and likeness. Yet as days passed, the fear of permanent hearing loss was great. Then I remembered an illustration I had heard given in a Christian Science lecture many years ago, which calmed my fear. The lecturer had brought out that even if a closet had been closed for fifty years, the moment the door was opened the light would eliminate the darkness. This gave me peace and an assurance that time is not a factor in healing.

For a number of weeks prior to this, in preparation for my yearly Christian Science Students Association meeting, I had been looking up references in the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy on the subject "divine law." I now prayed with these spiritual truths in meeting the challenge of defective hearing. A statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy gave me an excellent basis to work from. It reads (p. 445): "You render the divine law of healing obscure and void, when you weigh the human in the scale with the divine, or limit in any direction of thought the omnipresence and omnipotence of God."
