Some time ago, as I was sitting in a restaurant...

Some time ago, as I was sitting in a restaurant, my attention was drawn to a beautiful crystal chandelier hanging from the middle of the ceiling. As I gazed at it, I realized that there was only one light in the center, but that each crystal prism was reflecting this one central light completely—none interfering with the reflection of another. This brought to mind the many references in Mary Baker Eddy's writings to man's identity as the reflection of the one infinite Mind, God. One such reference from Pulpit and Press reads (p. 4): "A dewdrop reflects the sun. Each of Christ's little ones reflects the infinite One, and therefore is the seer's declaration true, that 'one on God's side is a majority.'"

This chandelier symbol was a great source of inspiration to me about two years ago when I was in desperate need of healing. Prior to that time my whole body had gradually become afflicted with a painful condition, deteriorating my health until I was unable to lie down, sit, or walk without discomfort. In fact, I could not raise my arms or even hold a book in my hands.

I would like to pause here to express my gratitude to God for the several Christian Science practitioners who helped me at different points throughout this period—especially for one who stood by me day and night this past year. In my darkest moments there was always a cheerful response to my calls and encouragement to keep going.
