FOR CHILDREN

The message of the arrows

Jonathan was the son of Saul, who was King of Israel. David was the son of Jesse, a farmer in Bethlehem. A book of the Bible called First Samuel tells their story.

After David killed the giant Goliath, King Saul decided David should serve him instead of going home. David and Jonathan became close friends.

As a boy and young man, David felt close to God. King Saul became jealous of David because God helped David in everything he did, and the people loved him. David had to leave King Saul's court to hide from him, but he met secretly with Jonathan so their friendship could continue. The feast of the new moon was coming when King Saul expected David to sit next to him at dinner. David was afraid to come. He and Jonathan made a secret plan and told no one about it.
