Many years ago I suffered severe pain and became...
Many years ago I suffered severe pain and became unable to work. My employer required me to see a doctor. X-rays revealed a biliary obstruction. The doctor said it was a difficult case, and that I should be operated on immediately. I had been studying Christian Science for a long time and had been helped through the application of this teaching. So it was natural for me to decline the operation and rely entirely on scientific prayer for healing.
I contacted a Christian Science practitioner and asked her to pray for me. Together we affirmed that the Father's spiritual creation is forever perfect and complete. Since God, who is infinitely good, doesn't share His power, neither sickness nor pain can be real. We pondered these and similar truths. In a few days, all pain disappeared; and the doctor, who was amazed, confirmed after a thorough examination that there was no longer any biliary obstruction. I returned to work, buoyant with gratitude.
The memory of this victory was a strong support to me years later when there was a disturbance in the breast and alarming symptoms appeared. Again, I wanted to rely totally on Christian Science. For a time I prayed for myself, cherishing the fact that divine Spirit is All-in-all, and that nothing exists to oppose His supreme law. Then it seemed best to ask a practitioner to help me. With his prayer, the fear was soon dispelled. I realized that I had some misconceptions to correct through spiritual reasoning. As I did this, I was able to express more love toward others and to stop dwelling on the problem. Soon I felt relief, and the discomfort occurred less frequently. One day I noticed that the symptoms, which had been so alarming, were gone. Without my knowing just when, the healing had come about.
