I am happy to be a student of Christian Science. In my home I have a room used exclusively for the reading of Christian Science literature. Through study of the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I have been healed of many illnesses, some of which were chronic. An understanding of Science has also helped me conduct my business activities of farming and ranching. I have effectively realized the truth of God's, Spirit's, absolute control over His creation during seasons of blight and drought. The result has always been a good yield of both crops and livestock. My neighbors used to feel I had a rather special God, but I was well aware that the divine law operates impartially to bless everyone equally; it's just necessary to have a spiritual understanding of God's infinite nature and to have absolute confidence in His supremacy.

For a time, despite my study of Christian Science, I had a persistent desire for alcohol, cigarettes, and card games. I wanted to correct this tendency in myself, but I seemed unable to do so. Suddenly something unforeseen occurred. The owners of the fields I was renting asked me to give them up. Faced with this serious problem, I held fast to truths found in the Bible and Science and Health. I understood that God alone governs and has all power, and that in my real being, as an idea of God, I had the constant guidance of divine Mind. As I accepted the infallible direction of Deity, fear disappeared. I was permitted to continue working the fields, and my need for an adequate income was resolved harmoniously.

But there was an added blessing. My consecrated study of Science had so transformed my consciousness that I no longer craved the material stimulus of alcohol or cigarettes, nor did I require card games to satisfy me. Rather, I found true satisfaction, joy, and wellbeing in a knowledge of God, in understanding more fully the omniscience of divine Mind, the omnipresence of immortal Love. As Mrs. Eddy reminds us (Science and Health, p. 324): "Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear,—this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony."
