I was troubled with bronchial asthma and taking pills every day...
I was troubled with bronchial asthma and taking pills every day for it when friends invited our family to a lecture on Christian Science. I knew I had found what I was seeking that day, because the lecturer's explanation of Science made sense to me. I was eager to know more about it.
After the lecture I told my husband that I was going to get rid of all the asthma pills, and I did so the following day. Medicine could offer me no cure for this condition, so I asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me. Through this help I noticed some improvement, but the physical healing was not apparent for almost nine years. At times fear and discouragement would try to creep in, making the condition seem aggressive. But I trusted in the power of Truth, and I expected healing. I did as much study as I could, sometimes getting up at 4 a.m. to study the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly and to read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
The practitioner I'd called asked me to study pages 390 to 394 in Science and Health. This section of the chapter "Christian Science Practice" includes these powerful instructions (p. 390): "Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought. Dismiss it with an abiding conviction that it is illegitimate, because you know that God is no more the author of sickness than He is of sin."
