During a severe influenza epidemic in New York City at the end of the First World War, my father was pronounced dying by an attending physician. Christian Science entered the case, and the prayer of a practitioner raised my father from his deathbed to immediate restoration of full vigor.

Since early childhood this comprehensive and comprehensible Science has been part of my life, and my gratitude is profound. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy lists six religious tenets. The first reads (p. 497): "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." My father's instantaneous healing inspired a family commitment to apply this tenet to all phases of daily experience.

Insofar as I have practiced the truths taught in Christian Science, I have found encouragement and healing in all circumstances. As a college student I received scholarship and job opportunities despite the economically depressed state of the country at that time. And after graduation, congenial employment opened up in unexpected ways. A happy marriage and the raising of four children followed.
