Freedom from the Herods of today
When Herod decreed the death of every male child, the Gospel of Matthew relates, an angel appeared to Joseph and told him to take Mary and Jesus into Egypt. Joseph obeyed and remained there until an angel revealed it was now safe to return.See Matt. 2:13-15, 19-21;
Herod-type thinking, as prevalent today as in Jesus' time, still would threaten the unfolding of good in human consciousness. The modern Herods, the evil, mortal thoughts of the carnal mind —sensuality, pride, lust—aim to destroy the spiritual idea.
How can we recognize the disguises of evil and defend ourselves against it? What enabled Joseph to conceal the infant Jesus from Herod?
