Christian Science was introduced to me in the early 1920's, and I attended church services and a lecture. The lecturer explained Science so clearly that I knew it was a religion I could accept and follow. Since then it has been our family's only religion—our only preacher and physician. Our five children were taught in the Christian Science Sunday School, and we have used Christian Science to solve our problems.
Many so-called children's diseases were healed. Supply, right place, and harmonious relationships have been demonstrated, sometimes with the help of Christian Science practitioners and sometimes by our own application of the truth. Now our children are married and are bringing up their children in the same way. Most of our grandchildren are class-taught and are active workers in their branch churches. My heart overflows with gratitude for all God's blessings that have been bestowed on me and my family.
A healing for which I am extremely grateful is that of a stroke, which left me without the use of my faculties. I had treatment through prayer from a practitioner and loving support from my family. The ninety-first Psalm, with these words, was a great help to me (vv. 9, 10): "Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling." Also comforting were the following two statements by Mrs. Eddy, which I kept in thought continually: "Know, then, that you possess sovereign power to think and act rightly, and that nothing can dispossess you of this heritage and trespass on Love" (Pulpit and Press, p. 3) and "Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man" (Science and Health, p. 393).
