Where Does Power Really Lie?

When social groups form, implicit as well as explicit objectives are established and means of reaching them considered. Almost always a division between leaders and the led appears, and ambitions emerge for the political power now evident. In complex modern societies the nature and locus of power exercises many political scientists as well as the man in the street. It's an important issue, having consequences in the lives of us all.

Christian Science, turning us from matter to Spirit, unravels the intricacies. It explains the real nature of power and government and shows us how to contribute to improving human societies until, through the surrender of a personal sense of man to the spiritual, it is universally demonstrated that man is the idea of Mind, governed by Mind.

The situation from the vantage point of Science is entirely different from that analyzed by political scientists and journalists. Mary Baker Eddy writes of universal being in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal. The straight and narrow way is to see and acknowledge this fact, yield to this power, and follow the leadings of truth." Science and Health, p. 151;
